The Delicious Source of Haze

This is a reproduction of a dialogue I had with a 5 year old kid named Syafiq, while en route to Pasar Ramadan Seksyen 17, Shah Alam.

The dialogue will be written in Bahasa Melayu for the sake of the content.

Me : Tak pegi main ke?

Syafiq : Tak la… jebu (jerebu)… nanti batuk.

Me : Ooo… bagus, bagus… Syafiq tau tak jerebu tu ape?

Syafiq : Tau la, oksigen (udara) kotor ni… nak tengok pun susah. Kabur je. Kat sekolah (tadika) pun semua orang kena jadi doktor.

Me : Jadi doktor?

Syafiq : Kan kita kena pakai topeng tu…

Me : HAHAHA… Syafiq tau tak kenapa jadi jerebu ni?

Syafiq : Tau. Pasal asap kereta, asap kilang, rokok, Pasar Ramadan…

Pasar Ramadan?

Come to think of it, he does have a point there. Upon a closer look a most Pasar Ramadans out there, I’d say that it is also a tastebud tingling, mouth salivating, Iman testing open air burning ground. From Satay to Kebab, or later on, lemang, many kinds of the food sold requires open air burning in its preparation.

But that won’t stop us from enjoying the food, right?
